v-Fluence Releases Article on Web Page Categorization
As the size of the Internet continues to increase at a rapid pace, we are beginning to encounter new challenges regarding information access. These challenges are no longer caused by insufficient privileges or obstacles to transmission of data; but by the sheer vastness of the data available to Web users.
Categorization of Web page type is still a work in progress. The emergence of tagging systems in search engines, most notably Google Co-op, are indicative of a growing effort to find new ways of categorizing and sorting information, in a manner that is more intuitive for information seekers.
In a new paper, v-Fluence Director of Interactive Services, Jiyan Wei, provides a scheme for categorizing types of Web pages using a theoretical framework developed by noted academics, Maria Bakardjieva and Andrew Feenberg.
This scheme can be used by researchers who are interested in analyzing the composition of a particular Web environment, according to the level of interactivity and participation that is present in that environment.
